NCN 70 - Cheshire Cycleway
NCN 70 - Cheshire Cycleway is a 288.7 km road cycling route in Peak District with 2710 m of climbing, about 10% of it off road, and it splits into about 4 days at a moderate pace.
The first fifth out of Alderley Edge through Bollington and up to Wildboarclough is the hardest riding on the route, hilly ground that sets the tone before the line settles into gentler, rolling country for the remaining four fifths. About a tenth of the distance is off road, spread across the whole route rather than concentrated in one place. The line passes through a long string of small settlements, from Alderley Edge to Great Warford, with the Wirral peninsula section running through Ness, Hooton and Whitby before the route turns inland again past Stoak and Dunham on the Hill.
Worth knowing before you go
The stretch between Higher Burwardsley and Hargrave is the longest gap between settlements, nearly twenty kilometres, so carry water and food before that section. No Man's Heath, Shocklach and Duckington are small, and the border country around them is genuinely quiet. Navigation through the Chester suburbs, Christleton into Hoole and Handbridge, needs attention where the route threads urban streets.
