The route runs north from Campbeltown through Kintyre and Argyll before climbing into the Great Glen and finishing in Inverness.

Most of it is road. The off-road sections are a minority and the route is tagged as a road route throughout. The line follows the coast for much of its southern half before turning inland through the Great Glen between Gairlochy and Aberchalder.

Worth knowing before you go

Settlements are sparse between Ormsary and Benderloch, a stretch of roughly a hundred kilometres with few places on the line. Resupply requires planning through Kintyre and Argyll. Campbeltown is the only sizeable town at the southern end; Inverness anchors the north.
