The route starts on the Furness Peninsula, where the line moves through Vickerstown, Hindpool and Salthouse before curving out to Roa Island and back inland through Leece and Great Urswick.

About fifteen percent of the surface is off road, spread across the whole distance. From Ulverston the road climbs and drops repeatedly as the route works through Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands and then north through Witherslack and Levens toward the Arnside and Silverdale area. The final stretch runs through Carnforth, Morecambe and along to Glasson, where the line ends.

Worth knowing before you go

Settlements are frequent in the first half but thin out between Sandside and Carnforth, so carry food through that section. The route is tagged as road but carries a significant off-road fraction, so a bike with some tyre clearance will handle the full line without detours. Navigation through the Morecambe and Lancaster sprawl, where the route threads Bare, Vale, Bulk, Moorlands and Aldcliffe in quick succession, requires attention.
